Readme.txt. 12/12/2022 Working Church (c) 2005-2023 Brothers in Christ Software www.workingchurch.com A. PREREQUISITES: 1. Windows 10 or above. 2. Microsoft Access 2016 or above. If you do not have MS Access on your system, do not worry, the Working Church installer will install a free "runtime" version of Microsoft Access 2016, or above, if it is needed. B. DEFAULT INSTALLATION FOLDER. 1. All Working Church related files will go into this folder: C:\BIC Software 2. You may install it somewhere else if you need to, but it's best to install in the default location. 3. Be sure to add the above folder to your backup routines so your Working Church data gets backed up regularly. C. 32-BIT VERSION VS. 64-BIT VERSION. 1. If you have MS Office 32-bit installed on your computer, you will need to install the 32-bit version of Working Church. 2. If you have MS Office 64-bit installed on your computer, you will need to install the 64-bit version of Working Church. 3. Both version are on the CD and both are available to be downloaded from our website. 4. How to determine which version of Office you have: - Open any office program (Word or Excel for example). - Click on "Account" (lower left of initial screen) - Click on "About Word" or "About Excel" button. - The first line displayed on the next screen will give version information, including 32-bit or 64-bit. Make note of which one, then use the same version of Working Church. D. FILES 1. Several files are required to run Working Church. These three are the most important: BICClient.accde BICServer.accde BICServerOptions.accde 2. BICCLIENT is an access database containing all the forms, reports, queries, etc., that make up the Working Church program. This file will get replaced each time you install a Working Church update. 3. BICSERVER is an access database that contains 99% of your data. It is critical that this file gets backed up periodically. 4. BICSERVEROPTIONS is an access database that supplements the main database. It is also important to back it up periodically. E. UTILITIES. 1. Several useful utilities are installed along with Working Church. They are located in this folder: C:\BIC Software\Utilities 2. BackupClient - Run this to make a backup of BICClient.accde to the local backup folder: C:\BIC Software\Backups. Note that this utility isn't meant to be your main backup solution. It is rather meant as an on the spot backup. 3. BackupServer - Run this to make a backup of BICServer.accde to the local backup folder: C:\BIC Software\Backups. Note that this utility isn't meant to be your main backup solution. It is rather meant as an on the spot backup. 4. CompactClient - Your Client file (BICClient) might get corrupted if the program was exited improperly such as the power suddenly going off while you were working in the program. Run this utility to "Compact and Repair" the client. It makes a backup copy of the client, then rebuilds it, eleminating any corruption if found. This can be run as often as desired. 5. CompactServer - Your Server file (BICServer) might get corrupted if the program was exited improperly such as the power suddenly going off while you were working in the program. Run this utility to "Compact and Repair" the server. It makes a backup copy of the server, then rebuilds it, eleminating any corruption if found. This can be run as often as desired. It is also a good idea to run this periodically against the server even if you aren't having problems. 6. ClearLockFiles - If the Compact utilities report that they can not run because the files are in use, and you know they are not in use, then run this utility to clear the "lock" tables. Once run, try the compact utilities again. 7. WorkingChurchShortcut.exe and WorkingChurchShortcut64. If the Working Church shortcut gets deleted accidentally, you can use this utility to rebuild it. Choose the correct version, 32 or 64-bit.
